Yard Signs, A-Frames, or Banners? How to Pick the Right Sign for Your Phoenix Business

By the Eyeconic Prints team, Phoenix, family-owned since 2008. Last updated: October 15, 2026

Quick answer: For most Phoenix businesses, an 18×24 yard sign works best on job sites and at events, an A-frame sign works best on the sidewalk outside your door, and a vinyl banner works best on a storefront or at a booth. Banners print up to 4 feet high and 8 feet wide, and wider by quote.

You need a sign by next week, and the first questions are always the same. How big? What kind? Where does it go?

Here is how to match the sign to the job, so you do not end up with a sign that is too small to read from the street.

The quick pick

Yard signs: the job site workhorse

An 18″x24″ corrugated plastic yard sign with a wire H-stake is the standard for a lot of Phoenix jobs, events, and local campaigns. A 12″x18″ version is available when you need something smaller.

  • Either direction. The panel prints in landscape (24″ wide by 18″ tall) or portrait (18″ wide by 24″ tall). Pick whichever fits your message.
  • Two sides. Print one side or both. Full-color and one-color options are available.
  • Stakes are separate. One stake holds one sign. Tell us how many you need.

Contractors use them to mark an active job with a company name, phone number, license number, or QR code. Schools, churches, and event organizers use them for game nights, fundraisers, and open houses.

A-frame signs: for people walking by

If your customers walk past your front door, an A-frame sign puts your message in their path. The same print shows on both sides, so people see it from either direction of the sidewalk.

An A-frame is the right pick for a sale, a “Now Open,” a daily special, or an arrow that says “this way.” The insert can be replaced, so you can change the message without buying a new frame.

Banners: the big message

Banners are printed with grommets in all four corners so they hang easily. Standard sizes, in width by height:

  • 4 ft x 2 ft
  • 5 ft x 3 ft
  • 6 ft x 4 ft
  • 8 ft x 4 ft

Banners go wide, not tall. The height tops out at 4 feet, while the width can run 8 feet and beyond. Need something wider than 8 feet? Ask for a quote.

A banner is the right pick for a storefront, a trade show booth, a table-front, a job site fence, or a team or sponsor display. You can run the artwork vertically or horizontally on the same banner.

What to put on any sign

Most signs fail the same way: too many words, too small.

  1. Who you are. Your company name, big.
  2. What you do or offer. Three to six words.
  3. How to reach you. Your phone number, as large as your name.

Keep the contrast high, with dark letters on a light background or the other way around. Leave empty space around the words. If it takes more than a few seconds to read from the street, there is too much on it.

The mistakes we see most

  • Too much text. If you need a paragraph, it belongs on a flyer, not a sign.
  • A tiny phone number. The number is the whole point. Make it big.
  • Wrong size for the distance. A sign people see from a moving car needs bigger letters than one read on a sidewalk.
  • A logo that is not ready to print. A blurry logo gets bigger and blurrier on a banner. See what file to send a print shop.

FAQ

What size is a standard yard sign?

The standard yard sign is 18 inches by 24 inches, printed on corrugated plastic and mounted on a wire H-stake. A smaller 12 by 18 inch size is also available. The panel can run landscape or portrait, so you choose whichever shape fits your message and your location.

How big can a custom banner be?

Standard banner sizes are 4 by 2 feet, 5 by 3 feet, 6 by 4 feet, and 8 by 4 feet, in width by height. Banners go wide, not tall, with the height topping out at 4 feet. For anything wider than 8 feet, ask for a quote.

What is the difference between a yard sign and an A-frame sign?

A yard sign is a flat panel on a stake, made for job sites, lawns, and events. An A-frame is a freestanding two-sided sidewalk sign for storefronts and foot traffic. The same print shows on both sides of an A-frame, and its insert can be replaced when your message changes.

Do yard signs come with stakes?

Stakes are a separate item. We use wire H-stakes, and one stake holds one sign. When you order, tell us how many stakes you need so your signs are ready to put in the ground the day you pick them up.
